WireSpot / Legal
Terms of Use
Effective 2026-09-25 · Version 3
These terms cover the WireSpot website and downloads. WireSpot software is licensed under the GNU General Public License, version 3 only (GPL-3.0-only). Nothing in these terms limits or takes away any right granted by the GPL. If these terms conflict with the GPL for the software, the GPL controls. The full license is in LICENSE.
Use and responsibility
WireSpot runs as administrator and changes Windows networking while it operates. You are responsible for using it lawfully and for checking the rules of your internet service provider, VPN provider, employer, school, or other network owner before sharing a connection. You are responsible for securing the PC, your VPN keys, and your hotspot password.
Device approval is a local control, not a guarantee that no unauthorized device can communicate. A newly joined device may have about one second of access before WireSpot applies the block. A device that rejoins with a randomized MAC address appears as a new request. Enforcement runs only while WireSpot is running.
Profile ping, NordVPN path validation, and speed-test results are estimates. Some VPN servers do not answer ping; a successful ping does not verify a WireGuard connection. NordVPN path checks validate the laptop's tunnel route and hotspot sharing capability; connected-device behavior can still vary. A speed test uses network data and measures the laptop's current route, which may differ from a connected device's speed.
No warranty and liability
The software and website are provided “as is,” without warranty, to the extent permitted by applicable law. The GPL's sections 15 and 16 set out the disclaimer of warranty and limitation of liability for the software. These terms do not add restrictions to, or reduce rights under, the GPL. The website and downloads may change or be unavailable.
Names and affiliation
WireSpot is an unofficial project. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Nord Security, Proton AG, WireGuard LLC, Jason A. Donenfeld, or Microsoft. Their names and marks belong to their respective owners.
